Yet, traditional care plans\r\n                    are frequently clinical and surface&#8209;level, leaving team members with basic facts rather than a\r\n                    true\r\n                    sense of who a person is.\r\n                <\/p>\r\n                <p>\r\n                    During the panel, Jeremy Robbins, Therap\u2019s Director of Strategic Initiatives, noted, \"Data tells us\r\n                    what happened. But it's really personal stories that help us to understand why it matters.\" Video is\r\n                    a great way to show those unique details and give staff a deeper understanding of the individual.\r\n                    Whether it is showing how an individual likes their living space arranged or highlighting the daily\r\n                    routines that make them feel most comfortable, these clips give valuable insights.\r\n                <\/p>\r\n                <p>\r\n                    Maddie Olson, a Residential Supervisor at RRSI, has witnessed this benefit firsthand. She shared, \"I\r\n                    think seeing a video specific to each individual\u2014it's humanizing. When you're reading data\u2026you don't\r\n                    have the real&#8209;world connection to reference. In a video, you get a peek into their\r\n                    personality.\"\r\n                <\/p>\r\n            <\/li>\r\n            <li>\r\n                <h3 class=\"font-bold text-therap-black mb-2\">\r\n                    Providing a Platform for Self-Advocacy\r\n                <\/h3>\r\n                <p>\r\n                    In addition to helping staff better understand the people they support, video documentation also\r\n                    offers an opportunity for individuals to have a voice in their own records. Therap\u2019s \u201cAbout Me\u201d\r\n                    Video feature serves as a platform for people to speak directly to their support teams about who\r\n                    they are and what matters most to them.\r\n                <\/p>\r\n                <p>\r\n                    Brittany Lee, a passionate self&#8209;advocate who has received services at Richmond Residential for\r\n                    over\r\n                    15 years, spoke during the panel about why visual introductions are so powerful: \"Videos help you\r\n                    get to know an individual just the way they are,\" she said. For Lee, making an \u201cAbout Me\u201d Video was\r\n                    a chance to share her story and encourage her peers to do the same. \"It was all so fun to do. I\r\n                    wanted people to know that you could do anything if you put your mind to it,\" she said.\r\n                <\/p>\r\n            <\/li>\r\n            <li>\r\n                <h3 class=\"font-bold text-therap-black mb-2\">\r\n                    Clarifying Communication Styles and Support Needs\r\n                <\/h3>\r\n                <p>\r\n                    Some aspects of daily support, such as unique communication styles and support techniques, are hard\r\n                    to explain on paper. Adding videos to documentation allows instructions and examples to be\r\n                    demonstrated to staff, helping them understand exactly how to interact with and assist an\r\n                    individual. When staff are clear on these details, it promotes consistency in supports across all\r\n                    team members\r\n                <\/p>\r\n                <p>\r\n                    For RRSI, video documentation has been an effective way for staff to familiarize themselves with the\r\n                    varying ways individuals communicate, including speaking, sign language, body language, or visual\r\n                    aid cards. For example, they recorded a video of an individual and a trusted DSP interacting to show\r\n                    exactly how the individual communicates in real time. Olson noted, \"We're not speaking for\r\n                    [individuals], we're speaking alongside them to make sure that their communication style is\r\n                    integrated, but it can be easily understood by [staff] who may not be as familiar with them yet.\"\r\n                <\/p>\r\n                <p>\r\n                    Video is also valuable for showing how to physically support individuals. Jocellyn Perry, RRSI\u2019s\r\n                    Quality Assurance Director, shared that the team made a video of an individual with multiple\r\n                    sclerosis (MS) and their occupational therapist showing their falls prevention plan. \"It was such a\r\n                    meaningful and impactful video,\" Perry said. Wakita Pollard, a Direct Support Professional at RRSI,\r\n                    agreed, noting that the video gives staff clear guidance on how to support safe movements and assist\r\n                    the individual if a fall occurs. \"If it weren't for the video, some people may not know, because\r\n                    he's not going to just come out and tell you,\" Pollard said.\r\n                <\/p>\r\n                <p>\r\n                    This wasn\u2019t a checklist of what to do when an individual falls\u2014it was a person showing staff exactly\r\n                    how to support them when they need it. Perry shared, \"It empowered this person to say, \u2018I'm very\r\n                    vulnerable when I fall and here's how I need support in my most vulnerable time in my apartment.\u2019\r\n                    There's no way that you could capture that essence in a document,\u201d she said. \u201cTo get the very\r\n                    essence of that in a video was priceless.\"\r\n                <\/p>\r\n            <\/li>\r\n            <li>\r\n                <h3 class=\"font-bold text-therap-black mb-2\">\r\n                    Enhancing Staff Onboarding and Training\r\n                <\/h3>\r\n                <p>\r\n                    Incorporating videos into documentation is a powerful way to onboard and train employees. Many\r\n                    people absorb and retain information better by watching a short video clip than reading pages of\r\n                    text. Pollard recalled her initial excitement about video documentation for this exact reason,\r\n                    noting, \"I was excited for new staff coming in to be able to have something to actually visually see\r\n                    what the clients need and want, as opposed to just reading it.\"\r\n                <\/p>\r\n                <p>\r\n                    The benefits extend well beyond initial orientation. Perry emphasized that watching videos has been\r\n                    helpful to all staff, regardless of the length of tenure. \"We can go on and on about all of the\r\n                    teaching and coaching that happens in real&#8209;time in a video,\" she said.
