Therap Attends the APSE National Conference in Cincinnati!

Last week, I had the privilege of spending several days at the APSE National Conference.  It was great to connect with many Therap customers as well as many agencies that were unaware of our Employment History Module.

I also was able to connect with several people from my previous time working in the field.

Here was one of the after-hours networking events.  There were about 1,000 attendees at the conference.  It was a great group to spend the week with!

I attended several sessions during the conference that focused on ways to provide gainful employment for individuals with disabilities, how to motivate and listen to individuals you work with and for and lots of other great topics.

Our conference program was 100 pages of awesome presentations!

I was even able to do a little exploring around the downtown Cincinnati area.

This outdoor stage had a crowd gathering for a concert.

It was a great conference and Therap was excited to be a part of it!

National Conference Highlights!

After an exceptionally wonderful conference last week, I was reflecting on the highlights of the conference and wanted to share:

Numbers from the Conference:

3 days (that is 72 hours or 4,320 minutes or 259,200 seconds!) of networking with our awesome customers!

400 attendees

300+ Sessions

40 User Presentations

Attendees from 30 states

There was also a Ping Pong challenge that took place between Calvin and Wares.  As you can see from the photo above, they had lots of Therap support for the big game!

We utilized a local company to bus us into Portland, learned lots of facts about Portland and visited a food truck area.  After many wonderful samplings at the food trucks, we were chauffeured to VooDoo Donuts.  The “Sue Duo” from Independent Options were accompanied by their boss, Dennis.  Everytime they take Dennis out, they celebrate his birthday.   Our trip to VooDoo Donuts was no exception.

The Past Couple of Weeks: Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Wisconsin (and 2500 miles!!)

I began last week traveling to the MACMHB conference in beautiful Traverse City, Michigan.  Fall time in Michigan is phenomenal!  Here are a couple of photos I took while there:

I then had the opportunity to attend the OPRA conference in Columbus, OH.  I talked with many providers throughout the state about solutions Therap can provide.

Headed to the conference!

Next I traveled to the Central Illinois DDNA conference to discuss nursing solutions with many providers in the state.  Here is a poster that our awesome Design team put together just for this conference!

Next I head to Waukesha, WI to exhibit at the WADSA conference.  I hope to see you there!  If I have not been in your area recently, give me a call!  I would be happy to stop by and visit with you about how Therap can improve efficiency at your agency!

Have a great weekend!

IARF Conference in Naperville

The IARF conference ended today in Naperville and it was a great few days!  Tom Pomeranz started the conference off with an awesome and thought provoking keynote called “Igniting a Vision for Change.”  Secretary Dimas spoke regarding how things are going at DHS.  I also attended a wonderful session by John Pingo and David Rebelak called “Using Cinematic Action-Based Instruction to Shift the Workplace Training Paradigm.”  This session showed a very different way to complete staff training.  The example was for Bloodborne Pathogens training and the scenario was that we all were workers for the CDC and there was a dangerous strain of a virus that broke out in our demographic area.  We were placed in small groups and needed to answer questions about Bloodborne Pathogens in order to save the world!!!  There were several applicable movie clips that kept our attention and helped us to better to understand necessary precautions and responses for the situation and to apply Bloodborne Pathogens procedures. (Luckily, I was in the group that won and saved the world!!)  Here is a picture of me and another group member (Karla from Progressive Housing – an awesome Therap customer!!)

IMG_20151008_124201261_HDR

Notice that the shirt says “I saved the world from a vampire zombie infection at IARF 2015 and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt.”

I really believe this is a wonderful and innovative way to train new employees!

Here is another selfie without the zombie t-shirt:

We were also celebrating the 40th anniversary of IARF!  I was so thrilled to have the big birthday cake next to my booth!!

Can’t wait for next year’s conference!  Have a great weekend!

Have You Seen the Enhancement to the ISP Report?

In our release last week, there was a pretty awesome addition to the ISP reporting capabilities.  If you have not seen it, I would recommend that you check it out!  You now have the ability to show a progress dropdown box (with newly added options!) for each ISP Program when you are completing your report:

(Click on each image to enlarge)

dropdown boxYou also have a comments section after each ISP program as well

comments

If you are interested in doing this for your reports, you will go into the Report screen and check off, “Add progress and comment per ISP Program.”

ss3

I believe this will greatly assist agencies when completing their monthly/quarterly/semi annual reports.  Check this new feature out and let us know what you think!

Cheers!

Need help filling out the Security Risk Assessment (SRA) tool?

Therap has a video that is hot off the press to assist you to fill out your Security Risk Assessment.  Click below to view this video:

You can also find this video on Therap’s home page.

Here is more information regarding the Security Risk Assessment from the HHS website:

A new security risk assessment (SRA) tool to help guide health care providers in small to medium sized offices conduct risk assessments of their organizations is now available from HHS.

The SRA tool is the result of a collaborative effort by the HHS Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and Office for Civil Rights (OCR). The tool is designed to help practices conduct and document a risk assessment in a thorough, organized fashion at their own pace by allowing them to assess the information security risks in their organizations under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Security Rule. The application, available for downloading at www.HealthIT.gov/security-risk-assessmentalso produces a report that can be provided to auditors.

HIPAA requires organizations that handle protected health information to regularly review the administrative, physical and technical safeguards they have in place to protect the security of the information. By conducting these risk assessments, health care providers can uncover potential weaknesses in their security policies, processes and systems.  Risk assessments also help providers address vulnerabilities, potentially preventing health data breaches or other adverse security events. A vigorous risk assessment process supports improved security of patient health data.

Conducting a security risk assessment is a key requirement of the HIPAA Security Rule and a core requirement for providers seeking payment through the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Program, commonly known as the Meaningful Use Program.

“Protecting patients’ protected health information is important to all health care providers and the new tool we are releasing today will help them assess the security of their organizations,” said Karen DeSalvo, M.D., national coordinator for health information technology. “The SRA tool and its additional resources have been designed to help health care providers conduct a risk assessment to support better security for patient health data.”

“We are pleased to have collaborated with the ONC on this project,” said Susan McAndrew, deputy director of OCR’s Division of Health Information Privacy. “We believe this tool will greatly assist providers in performing a risk assessment to meet their obligations under the HIPAA Security Rule.”

The SRA tool’s website contains a User Guide and Tutorial video to help providers begin using the tool. Videos on risk analysis and contingency planning are available at the website to provide further context.

The tool is available for both Windows operating systems and iOS iPads. Download the Windows version athttp://www.HealthIT.gov/security-risk-assessment. The iOS iPad version is available from the Apple App Store(search under “HHS SRA tool”).

Thanks!

Michelle :)

Visit to Galesburg, IL

I had the pleasure to visit with some potential agencies last week during an Information Session hosted at KCCDD.  Prior to the Info. Session, I was able to take to quick visit to the birthplace of Carl Sandburg.   Although formal tours were not available at 7 in the morning, I still learned plenty.

Also, here are a couple of poems I like that were written by Carl Sandburg:

At a Window
BY CARL SANDBURG
Give me hunger,
O you gods that sit and give
The world its orders.
Give me hunger, pain and want,
Shut me out with shame and failure
From your doors of gold and fame,
Give me your shabbiest, weariest hunger!

But leave me a little love,
A voice to speak to me in the day end,
A hand to touch me in the dark room
Breaking the long loneliness.
In the dusk of day-shapes
Blurring the sunset,
One little wandering, western star
Thrust out from the changing shores of shadow.
Let me go to the window,
Watch there the day-shapes of dusk
And wait and know the coming
Of a little love.

Home Thoughts by Carl Sandburg
THE SEA rocks have a green moss.
The pine rocks have red berries.
I have memories of you.

Speak to me of how you miss me.
Tell me the hours go long and slow.

Speak to me of the drag on your heart,
The iron drag of the long days.

I know hours empty as a beggar’s tin cup on a rainy day, empty as a soldier’s sleeve with an arm lost.

Speak to me …

Michelle :)
