2nd Annual Therap Dhaka Conference featured in Newspapers

Therap Asia organised their 2nd Annual Dhaka Conference 2018 at RAOWA Convention Center, Dhaka on April 9, 2018. This year the theme was ‘Using Documentation to Improve Quality of Care and Support for Better Future’. Both Therap users and potential Therap users from disability service providing agencies were present at the conference. Over 250 special school teachers, therapists and executive board members from across 60 disability organization attended the conference.

Various popular newspapers of Bangladesh featured the Therap conference- Ittefaq, Kaler Kantho, Samakal, Bangla Tribune and New Age. They also featured the news on their online news portal. The attendees at the conference also shared these news on their profile in social media. They also added that Therap should organise this type of conference every year.

The conference was introduced by Maj. Gen. (Retd.) M. Shamim Chowdhury, Head of HR and Vital Assets of Therap (BD) Ltd. Richard Robbins, CEO of Therap Services later shared his vision for Therap Asia and visions of Therap to go global. Members from the Therap USA team and also the users of Therap spoke about the importance of digital documentation to improve quality of care for persons with disabilities at the event. Therap users also explained the benefits they have gained by implementing Therap’s Electronic Health Records software.

Therap Team Visits BRAC Neurodevelopmental Disability Centre and One Room School, May 2018

BRAC, world’s top NGO starts its journey with Therap Asia. BRAC is an International development organisation working globally in Economic Development, Education, Public Health and also Disaster Relief sectors. BRAC showed keen interest to use Therap software for regular documentation in their Neurodevelopmental Disability(NDD) Centres and One Room Schools. Limia Dewan,Programme Manager Inclusive Education, from BRAC attended 2nd Annual Therap Dhaka Conference and showed interest to use Therap for BRAC NDD centres and One Room schools.

Before starting, it was important that Therap Asia team has a clear idea about the structure of BRAC NDD centres and One Room schools. That is why Therap Asia team visited some of the NDD centres and One Room schools. Therap Asia team along with Sarder Lutfor Rahman, Senior Sector Specialist Inclusive Education and Md Mohsin Ali, Sector Specialist Inclusive Education from BRAC went to visit the NDD centre situated at Karail Slum. BRAC NDD centres provides care specifically for the persons with disabilities. Children living in the Karail slum who are diagnosed with Neurodevelopmental Disability (Autism, Epilepsy etc) go to these BRAC NDD centres to get proper service and education. Teachers and therapists provide regular support to the persons with disabilities. Each NDD center, provides support to around 20 special children. The Therap team, was explained how these children receive care and support by the BRAC representatives.

Therap Asia team also visited several One Room schools situated in the Karail Slum and at Shyamoli. These One Room schools provides support and education to both person with and without disabilities. In each of the One Room school, there are 30 children and among them, some of them have disabilities. In One Room school the same children study from class one to class five under the supervision of the same teacher. One Room school has pre-primary sections also for the children who are about to start their education. All these information regarding BRAC NDD Centers and One Room school proved very helpful for the Therap Team. Once BRAC starts implementing Therap, these information will enable the Therap team an effective implementation process of the Therap software.

Therap Asia team observed that BRAC NDD centres and One Room schools are run in a very systematic way and the teachers are very responsible. At the moment they document regularly in paper but with Therap they will be able to document using digital platform to keep track of the data and generate reports which will help them to enhance the quality of services that they provide. Therap Asia is very excited and looking forward to a great journey with BRAC.

Therap Team Visit to SWID Laboratory Model School, April 2018

Society for the Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled (SWID) Bangladesh is country’s one of the first organizations who started working with the Persons with Intellectual Disability (PWD) in Bangladesh since 1977. SWID Bangladesh currently has more than 450 branches all over Bangladesh. Therap was yet again, delighted to visit the main branch of SWID Bangladesh, SWID Laboratory Model School on April 5, 2018.

A team of 9 members from Therap which included Therap USA personnel Joshua Corzantes, Senior Training and Implementation Specialist, Ishya “Shae” Dotson, State Implementation Specialist along with Quality Assurance professionals from Therap Bangladesh team visited SWID Laboratory Model School.

Jowaherul Islam Mamun, Secretary General of SWID Bangladesh, welcomed the Therap team warmly.

Therap team’s tour to SWID Laboratory Model School began with attending the morning assembly routine performed by the special children of SWID Laboratory Model School. Then the Therap team visited the class rooms of SWID Laboratory Model School and was privileged to see the activities and services provided to the special childrens in each classroom. The authority also arranged a short cultural program for Therap team where all the performances were performed by special childrens of SWID Laboratory Model School.

Currently over 100 branches of SWID Bangladesh uses Therap all over Bangladesh. Later on the day, Therap team had a discussion with SWID authority regarding the further implementation plan of Therap to more SWID branches.

Therap team expresses gratitude to authority of SWID Laboratory Model School for inviting Therap team to visit SWID laboratory Model School.

Therap Workshop in Nepal, April 2018

Therap is delighted to have been able to organize a successful workshop, in collaboration with SERC school Nepal on April 13, 2018 at Grand Hotel Kathmandu. Special schools and organizations supporting Persons with Disabilities (PWD) from all over Nepal attended the workshop.

The workshop started with the welcome speech by Anish K.C., General Manager, SERC school.

Moving forward Prattay Iqbal, International Business Development Executive along with Michelle Saunders, Business Development Consultant of Therap gave an overview of Therap to the attendees and talked about Therap’s activity globally.

Later on, Joshua Corzantes, Senior Training & Implementation Specialist demonstrated Therap system and addressed the issues and queries raised by the users in the workshop.

As a certified person centered thinker Ishya “Shae” Dotson, State Implementation Specialist of Therap addressed the importance of person centered planning and demonstrated capturing information using Therap.

Fayonne Johnson, Senior Training and Implementation Specialist of Therap addressed the health tracking module of Therap and how it can be useful to track individuals’ health information.

Over 40 people attended the workshop, most of whom were special educators, teachers, occupational and speech therapists and senior management from different disability organizations.

At the end, there was question answer session for the attendees. The interactive question answer session went on for a while and all the questions were addressed. Therap Asia looks forward to having more such exciting workshops for the users in Nepal.

2nd Annual Therap Dhaka Conference, April 2018

Therap Asia organised their 2nd Annual Dhaka Conference 2018 at RAOWA Convention Hall on April 9, 2018. The main theme of the conference was ‘Using Documentation to Improve Quality of Care and Support for Better Future’. Among the attendees, there were Principals, Executive Board Members, Teachers, Therapist and also some parents who are providing support to the Persons with Disabilities (PWD). Both Therap users and potential Therap users from disability service providing agencies attended the conference.

The conference was inaugurated by Maj. Gen. (Retd.) M. Shamim Chowdhury, Head of HR and Vital Assets of Therap (BD) Ltd. He expressed his gratitude towards the attendees and welcomed them. Later on Richard Robbins, CEO of Therap Services shared his visions about Therap in Asia and also ensured that Therap will continue working collaboratively with the agencies across Asia. A team of experts from the Therap US team, who have been working in the PWD sector for more than 25 years, also presented at the Conference. From the Therap US team Michelle Saunders (Business Development Consultant), Shae Dotson (State Implementation Specialist), Fayonne Johnson (Senior Training and Implementation Specialist) and Joshua Corzantes (Senior Training and Implementation Specialist) shared their views about Disability Industry, Digital Documentation and Person Centered Planning. They also showed live demonstration of some of important modules of Therap.

Sessions were also conducted by users of Therap, who are actively implementing Therap at their organization. These users explained various ways they provide service to special children and also how Therap plays a role at their organization for regular documentation and keeping track of records of these services. It was Therap Asia’s honor and privilege to have Ms. Mamtaz Sultana, Vice Principal from Beautiful Mind School, Dr. Mushfekur Rahman, Chairperson, Angel’s Care Foundation, Ms. Sabina Hossain, Chairperson, SWAC and Shaila Afroz, Clinical Occupational Therapist, Smiling Children as Guest Speakers at the 2nd Annual Therap Dhaka Conference.

Therap also had teachers from these schools who presented at the Conference which included Ms. Sabrina Mustary Smrity (Beautiful Mind School), Shamima Akter Deepa (Angel’s Care Foundation),Mahbub Hasan (SWAC) and Roman Ali Shah (Smiling Children).

Later in the day, two simultaneous sessions were conducted. Persons who are in the Management body of an organization (such as Executive Members, Chairpersons) attended sessions which were specifically designed for them lead by Prattay Iqbal (International Business Development Executive) and Michelle Saunders (Business Development Consultant). Teachers and Parents attended sessions regarding important Therap Modules, taken by Therap US team and Therap Asia Team. A Therap User Group Question and Answers session was arranged, teachers from various schools asked Therap related questions and these were answered by teachers who gave presentation earlier in the day.

This year’s Top Therap User award was awarded to teachers from Smiling Children Special School (Dhaka) and Anuvab Buddhi Protibondhi School (Gaibandha). Top Agency which implemented Therap the best, was awarded to Angel’s Care Foundation (Dhaka).

Therap Asia is glad to have another successful conference this year. Therap Asia will always try to work collaboratively with the disability service providing agencies across Asia and will always try to make an impact so that the persons with disabilities get the best support from the agencies. Therap Asia will always strive to provide best support to the caregivers of disability service providing agencies. Therap Asia looks forward to have more conferences and workshops in the future across Asia.

Therap Asia Starts Journey with BRAC, May 2018

Therap Asia starts an exciting journey with the world’s top NGO, BRAC. BRAC is an International development organisation working globally in Economic Development, Education, Public Health and also Disaster Relief sectors. Limia Dewan, Programme Manager Inclusive Education, from BRAC met with the Therap team at Therap Asia’s 2nd Annual Dhaka Conference, held in April 2018. After attending the sessions at the conference, BRAC showed keen interest to use Therap for their Neurodevelopmental Disability (NDD) Centers and One Room Inclusive Schools where they provide support to Persons With Disabilities (PWD).

Recently, Therap had an orientation with BRAC at one of the learning centers of BRAC, located at Uttara. Around 30 BRAC attendees were present at the orientation, which included Teachers, Program Organisers and Sector Specialists. Limia Dewan, Programme Manager Inclusive Education, along with Sanjoy kumar Saha, Manager (PWD), Sarder Lutfor Rahman, Senior Sector Specialist Inclusive Education and Md Mohsin Ali, Sector Specialist Inclusive Education were there to welcome members from the Therap Asia team.

The orientation to Therap software was given by Prattay Iqbal, International Business Development Executive, Therap. He gave a presentation on the Therap software, where he provided information about what Therap is, what Therap does and what are the benefits of using Therap for the agencies providing support to the Persons With Disabilities(PWD). The attendees were really excited to know about the system and the functionalities of Therap. They also interacted with some very interesting questions.

The BRAC attendees, learned about the important Therap modules that are commonly used in Asia and their usefulness. The attendees were very excited to see that using Therap, their documentation will be faster, they will get to eliminate the use of paper and not waste huge amount of time in preparing reports. All the attendees showed interest and they are looking forward to use Therap for enhancing their quality of support. Therap Asia is also glad to get the opportunity to work with an organisation such as BRAC. The Therap Asia team looks forward to working collaboratively with BRAC for many more years to come.

Therap at Job Fair 2018 for The Persons with Disabilities in Bangladesh

Bangladesh Computer Council in association with ICT Division organized a Job Fair for persons with disabilities (PWD) on January 1, 2018. Therap was invited to the event by Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) & Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) to attend this event. Mr. Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP, Hon’ble State Minister for ICT Division attended the event as chief guest. It was a great opportunity for the employers who want to employ person with disabilities. The employers had a chance to meet the candidates personally and conduct interview sessions. There were drop boxes in place as well so that candidates can come in and drop their resumes. Therap had the opportunity to meet prospective candidates and received a lot of resumes during  the job fair. The job fair was insightful for Therap officials as they had the opportunity to meet some really talented and promising candidates throughout the event.

Therap Team Visits The Society for the Welfare of Autistic Children (SWAC)

The Society for the Welfare of Autistic Children (SWAC) is a nonprofit and voluntary organization providing education and training to special children since February 3, 2000.

A team of 9 persons from Therap visited SWAC on November 14, 2017. Sabina Hossain, Director and Md. Mofizul Islam, Deputy Manager from SWAC welcomed Therap team cordially. USA personnel Jeff Covington (Deputy Director of USA State Implementation), Johanna Kroth (Senior Training & Implementation Specialist) from Therap USA team along with Quality Assurance professionals from Therap Bangladesh team visited SWAC.

The tour of the school started with visiting classrooms of SWAC with the guidance of SWAC personnel. Teachers and special educators of SWAC described Therap team how they teach and train the special children. Therap team were privileged to get a look at  the curriculum and services provided in different classrooms of SWAC for different individuals.

After the school tour Therap team then had question answer session with teachers of SWAC. Jeff Covington (Deputy Director of USA State Implementation) answered all of their queries regarding Therap system.

Therap team is very delighted to visit SWAC and thanked SWAC authorities for the invitation.

Therap Team at Angels Care Foundation

A team of eight people from Therap visited the special school Angels Care Foundation on November 15, 2017. Therap Asia team along with USA personnel (with more than 20 years of experience)  Jason Laws (Business Development Consultant ), Sarah Christiansen (Training and Implementation Specialist)and several Programmer and Quality Assurance professionals from Therap Bangladesh visited the school.

Therap team reached school in the morning and all the teachers received them with a warm welcome. The president of the school Dr. Mushfequr Rahman and the Head Teacher Ms. Farzana Faruq were also present. Dr. Mushfequr Rahman, accompanied the Therap team during the  tour to all the classrooms of the school. In each classroom he explained how their teaching procedure works and how the children are improving their abilities. Some children showed their talent by reciting rhymes and reading from books. After that the school management had a discussion with the Therap team about how they are doing their daily documentation and how using Therap is helping them to improve their quality of services. The teachers also showed that how they actually do the digital documentation daily and also they shared their experience of using Therap on a daily basis. According to them it is much easier for them to track all the data about the children in Therap and they are really happy with it.

Few special children did some heartwarming performance for the Therap team. Later on Jason Laws and Sarah Christiansen thanked them for the invitation to their school. As this was the first visit to Bangladesh for Jason Laws and Sarah Christiansen, it was a pleasant experience for them to visit a special school like Angels Care Foundation.

Therap team visits the wonderful Beautiful Mind School

Beautiful Mind is one of the leading special schools in Bangladesh which is providing services to children with autism and intellectually challenged children since 2004.

A team of 13 persons from Therap  visited Beautiful Mind on November 13, 2017. The school authority welcomed the Therap team cordially.

USA personnel Jeff Covington (Deputy Director of USA State Implementation), Jason Laws (Business Development Consultant, USA), Johanna Kroth (Senior Training & Implementation Specialist) and Sarah Christiansen (Training & Implementation Specialist) from Therap USA team along with Quality Assurance professionals from Therap Bangladesh team visited Beautiful Mind.

The tour of the school started with the assembly of the students and Therap team participating with the students and the teachers. Later on the group was divided into smaller groups led by one teacher for each group from Beautiful Mind. Each group got a tour of the whole school separately. Therap team visited the classrooms in Beautiful Mind and is privileged to see different kinds of activities and services provided in every classrooms.

After the school tour Therap team had a question answer session with the administrators, special educators, therapists of Beautiful Mind in their training room. Teachers using Therap had some queries for the USA team which was then addressed.

Therap team expresses gratitude to the school authorities of Beautiful Mind for inviting Therap team to visit their school.
