I am coming to the end of a short but absolutely wonderful trip to Edinburgh, Scotland.
The primary reason for my trip was to join in the celebration of my Dad’s 50th Anniversary of his ordination as an Episcopal Priest. This was an event tonight at the church in Edinburgh that I grew up in.
It’s a hard thing to describe, but it was both a wonderful testimony to the work that Dad (and Mum) did in St Martin’s, the surrounding community of Gorgie and Darly and elsewhere over the last half-century. The fact that I think the best talk of the night was given be someone who was both not part of the church from a belief perspective but completely involved in a community perspective showed to me just how we can and all should be working together for the benefit of those around us.
Not only was it a very touching evening for the relections on all that has happened over the last 50 years, it was also a wonderful occaision for me to re-connect with a whole host of significant people from my formative years.
There is not much cooler than to be in awe of your parents.
