I have spent the last week in Edinburgh, Scotland with my parents as my dad recovers from taking a bit of a tumble.

I have been incredibly impressed by the quality of care he receives, most of it at home with the very definite goal of getting him out of hospital as soon as possible and supporting him and mum to be independent and safe at home.  There are home health aides every morning and night and the OT and PT stop by regualrly.

The booklet given to him where they all do documentation could only be better if it was on Therap.  He even gets to write his own ISP Plan letting everyone involved know what his goals are (to get back on his bike!).

I’ve also had a great time catching up with my siblings as we scheme to make sure the old folks behave.  We went out for a delicious Indian meal and couldn’t recall the last time just the three of us had gone out (if we ever had).  Here’s a tip if you have siblings – go hang out with them, they are cool.

I did sneak out briefly on Sunday to meet up with my friends Scott and Keith (and was particularly happy that Keith’s folks stopped in for a pint).  We were out to watch Hearts beat Hibs 2-0 in a very fine Edinburgh Derby (the football is rarely any good,  all that matters is that your side wins).  The bad news for Keith was that he is a Hibs fan, I don’t think he was too worried though as after the game we went back to visit his gorgeous 9 week old daughter Ella.

I am indeed fortunate to have a family and a job that allow me to be so flexible in where I call home!  The only thing here that has been miserable is the weather, but there’s nothing new there!
