Just when things seemed to be settling down at Tynecastle, Heart of Midlothian owner Vladimir Romanov (who makes George Steinbrenner look stable and relaxed) fired coach Graham Rix.

In general this probably wasn’t an awful decision, while Rix seems like an awfully nice chap he really hasn’t done much at all since taking over other than let Celtic run away with the league and Rangers get an awful lot closer to us in 2nd.  2nd place in the Scottish Premier League this is is a huge prize, as it guarantees entery into the final qualification round of the UEFA Champions League.  In other words, win one game and you are into the group stage and income in the tens of millions of pounds.

The big issue with the sacking is its proximity to next Sunday’s Scottish Cup Semi Final against Hibs.  But as the team seemed to respond just fine against Falkirk yesterday in a 2-1 win, I don’t think we need have any extra concern about the semi-final.  That’s not to say that I am extrememly worried about it just as a point of principle.  Should we win, it really doesn’t matter what else happens for the rest of the century.  If we lose, I may have to move even further from Gorgie in order to avoid the abuse coming out of Easter Road.
