Therap and Choices (the OMRDD Microsoft Dynamics project for MSC in New York)

Yesterday's session at the NYSACRA Conference about the new web based system that OMRDD will be introducing for Medicaid Service Coordinators in New York made for fascinating listening and watching.

I think that it is going to be a great thing for Therap for many reasons:

  1. There will be much more clarity about electronic signatures.
  2. There will be absolute definition of what fields are required on the forms that they are implementing (13 forms between DDP and MSC forms)
  3. The structure and the nature of their system will make building an interface simple and straightforward for both them and us.
  4. The data stored in Choices will not be usable for internal purposed such as aggregating, internal review, billing etc so it will make much more […]

Electronic Signatures in New York

Yesterday, New York’s OMRDD issues a policy statement on Electronic Signatures and Records.  You can read it here.  The statement references an older document from OMIG which you can read here.

Both of these documents are available in our expanding New York Reference Documents section.

These documents confirm our position that electronic signatures are valid except where otherwise indicated in regulation.

Also, the statement says:

The electronic medical record must have a control feature which date stamps each entry into the record that cannot be turned off or over-written.

Electronic Documentation in New York (and beyond)

One of the most common questions I am asked is, “Will my state accept Therap documentation in an audit or survey?”.

The answer to this has never been desperately clear, but thankfully now is becoming more and more so around the country.  This is obviously assisted by the fact that we are the official system in states such as Delaware, Montana, and North Dakota.  However there is more and more coming out that proves the value of our model and your choice to use Therap.

As I blogged a while back, CMS issues guidelines to Medicaid Surveyors saying:

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Centers for
Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) are committed […]
