A week in Edinburgh, Scotland

Just in case you have been looking for me or I haven’t been as responsive this week as I should be, there’s the reason!

I am spending a week or so with family in Edinburgh, with the big event being my nephew Matt’s wedding.

It was a great event with plenty gratuitous kilt wearing (the photo is with my brother and my dad).

The rest of the week will be catching up with family, friends, and the famous Heart of Midlothian.

If you do need something, drop me an email or jump on Live Help.

Friday's news of the day :: Another proud Dad post

It’s been quite a week or so in Justin’s world (which can often be a rather strange place!) and I’m not even getting into how much fun it is supporting the newly rejuvenated Heart of Midlothian this year (although I am sure I will get there at sometime between now and May).

Justin and Iona Brockie

Prior to the formal announcements from South Carolina and Idaho, there was an announcement from my daughter Iona to the effect of:

This morning I accepted a full-time offer from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory!! I’m excited and honored to be part of a legacy that includes Explorer 1, Voyager, […]

Have you ever thought of being a foster or adoptive parent?

My wife Michele and I have been involved in the respite/foster/adoptive world for the last 25 years or so (no wonder we feel so old!)

Recently we were approached by one of the staff at the Institute for Professional Practice who we were with prior to adopting Siraya.  She wanted to write a piece that would help encourage others to look at becoming foster or adoptive parents.

If you are here in Connecticut, IPP or the Foster Adoptive Mission are great people to get in touch with and I am sure there are similar organizations around the country.  Here’s the piece taken from this month’s FAM newsletter:

In honor of National […]

Saturday with The Big Red Marching Band

I’m not sure if this is another “aren’t my kids awesome” post or a “how on earth do I have a college senior” post.  It’s hard to imagine it was four years ago that we came here for the first time.

Video on Emerald Eyes from Sony

We spent Saturday in Ithaca with the self-proclaimed Only Real Marching Band In The Ivy League.  It was their final home game of the season and following the game was their Senior Concert were each senior got to conduct the band for a song.  It was such a joy to see so many “kids” having such a great time (and crying all over each other).

For all that Iona has achieved over the last four […]

See you in Edingburgh!

Edinburgh Castle

This should be my view tomorrow morning (assuming of course I forget to get off the bus at my parent’s house).

I will be in Scotland for the next week so I may be slightly less available than normal.

If you need me, email is probably best, or try the office or live help.

I’m spending a few days over here visiting my daughter Iona who has a summer job interning at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)..  Yesterday she was abe to give us a tour, it’s very exciting, especially if you have any interest at all in space and explortion (who doesn’t?).

25 years ago today…

880528 Wedding

I was going to try and come up with a really clever list of all the things that have happened in the last quarter century and those that we have accomplished over the last 25 years, but the list just gets way too long.

I think that it all boils down to the kids though.  When you take a look at www.ionabrockie.com and www.calumbrockie.com I think we’ve done alright!  Add to that how far Siraya has come, and don’t forget Iain, Blythe, David, Carolyn,  Ayeesha, Nicole, Julio, Diamond and all the rest!

Here’s to the next 25!

Love you lots.

Happy 21st Birthday Iona!

Iona smiling

Twenty-one years ago (I believe it was at 7:52pm GMT at the Simpson Memoria Maternity Pavilion in Edinburgh, Scotland) the world changed!  I’m still getting used to it and I have a feeling that the rest of the planet (and at this rate a few others) will need to get used to it too over the coming years.

In typical Iona fashion, even that original birthday was kind of dramatic and things haven’t slowed down since.

I was thinking of writing a review of all the amazing things that have happened between that night and today, however, I just don’t have the time!  It […]

The best of days in Boston

121006 Harvard 9

This weekend I actually got the chance to see all my kids in the same place at the same time!  The Cornell football team were in Boston to play Harvard, so The Only Real Marching Band in the Ivy League was there too (or vice versa!).  As they were in Boston, Calum was invited to join in too, both at Quincy Market the night before and at the game itself.

To make the occiasion even more fun, Sazzad came along to try and work out what was going […]
