Day 2 in Columbia, South Carolina

Today we have the next section of our South Carolina Conference.  Yesterday was all the Case Managers, today and tomorrow we have Day and Residential Providers.  Between the two groups we have getting on for 700 people!

The providers in South Carolina have done a great job of implementing Therap.  Such a good job in fact, there was a group singing about it in a session this morning!

Tonight we have a reception which is being hosted by a couple of very generous sponsors.  As such we would really like to thank:

If you are in the area, be sure to stop by!

South Carolina Annual Case Management and Early Intervention Conference

Today in Columbia, South Carolina we have 400 or so Case Managers from all over the state coming together to learn more about Therap, most specifically a whole bunch of Case Management modules that are in the process of being rolled out.

We are running five concurrent sessions co-teaching with our colleagues from DDSN.

This is a great hotel to run a conference in, incredibly helpful staff and a nicely laid out facility.  We have a full team of support staff here so it’s looking like a great day!

Not only that, then we have two days for Day and Residential Providers to come.

Before that though, a wee bit of Fireflies Baseball!

The South Carolina State Conference

We are in Columbia, South Carolina for three days of conferencing.  First a day with Case Managers and then two days with service providers.

However, before that we had a night out with the Columbia Fireflies, the latest Mets A affiliate at their brand new ballpark.  Much fun!

Since then we have had days meeting with South Carolina folks, with one more to go

Friday in Columbia, South Carolina

We finished off a very successful week in South Carolina with some meetings at the DDSN offices in Columbia.  Pulling in, I noticed that the flags outside were at half mast.  Any time I see this I am curious as to why, wondering if there was a local soldier being honored or some other occasion.

So I took to Google and discovered that today is National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day.  According to us.halfstaff.org the following is the proclamation:

Presidential Proclamation — Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week, 2015

PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY AND POLICE WEEK, 2015 – – – – – – – BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA A PROCLAMATION

Each May, our Nation salutes the American women and […]

South Carolina Conference :: Day Two

Day two of the conference kicked off with a Question and Answer panel featuring the leadership of DDSN along with Jeff Covington, Deb and myself.  It’s the first time we’ve done this with such a big crowd, but I thought it worked very well with some thoughtful and useful questions from the crowd and some great answers from DDSN.

While we are never perfect (and often too far from it), the commitment to openness in this project is impressive and very welcome.

Based on the buy-in we are getting from the providers and the commitment from DDSN, South Carolina is going to a tremendous job implementing Therap.

South Carolina Conference :: Day One

WOW!

What an incredible first day it has been here in Columbia, South Carolina.  With about 500 people here is has been quite a conference.  Somewhere at the front of that mass of people I am there during this morning’s plenary session (excellently opened by DDSN Director, Dr. Beverley Buscemi).

Thanks to a very well run facility at the DoubleTree and (of course) our excellent training team, things are moving along nicely and people are learning things left, right and center in seven consecutive sessions.

Already looking forward to more of the same tomorrow.

Updates from South Carolina

I should start by saying that I was really hoping that the South Carolina women’s basketball team would get to tonight’s final.  That would have been a fun game against Connecticut.  Having said that, I was routing for Wisconsin last night and didn’t do too well.  My reason’s for supporting Wisconsin are threefold (at least!):

  1. We just went live with our implementation at their developmental centers.
  2. The “W” they used is also used by my hometown Wolcott High School. So my Jazz Band tie is covered in Wisconsin Ws!
  3. They are badgers!  Growing up, on family camping holidays we had a badger flag flying above our tent (I suspect it was a Swallows and Amazons thing!) as […]

Thursday in Savannah, Georgia (even though I was never meant to be here!)

Another great day of meetings in Columbia, South Carolina.  Getting home however may be interesting!  Thanks to the weather in the north east and a plane slipping off the runway at Laguardia.

Thanks to a wonderful lady on the phone at United we do have a route home, it just involved us driving to Savannah, Georgia, having dinner in the house where Captain Flint died, and flying back to Boston!

I’m not sure that my travel woes make for scintillating reading, but it’s good therapy for me to write about them!

Wednesday in (sunny and warm!) Columbia, South Carolina

Sazzad and I are down here working with the fine folks as The State of South Carolina’s DDSN.  Having been delayed on the way down because our plane leaving Hartford, CT had to be de-iced twice (twice!  That has never happened to me before and can be added to the list of sufferings from this unending winter) we are now enjoying blue skies, sunshine, and 80 degree weather.  It is a truly beautiful thing!

Lots of great work going on down here, we’ll be posting updates soon at: https://www.therapservices.net/south-carolina/

A lovely (if chilly) week in South Carolina

Time to head home now from a wonderfully peaceful week in Myrtle beach, South Carolina.

Hopefully the trip home won’t be quite as exciting as the trip down here.

We’ve had a great time chilling out (literally) and then warming by the fire!

Probably top of my list was discovering that the local Piggly Wiggly has a growler fill station! (what’s better than pouring beer at your grocery store?)

Hopefully next time we are down here we’ll be able to explore a bit more outside.
