Ever since we produced our first Incident Report in Therap 1.0 about 10 years ago, we have been asked how we deal with an incident involving multiple individuals. Up to now, we basically didn’t other than insisting (very strongly sometimes) that a single GER or incident report had to be about just one individual in order to preserve HIPAA compliance and data integrity.
Well, in Therap 2013.0 we are introducing the concept of Multi Individual Events! The way I look at it, there are basically two scenarios. The first is a bus crash and the second is an altercation. In the first, the same thing happened to a group of individuals and in the second, two GERs are written about different individuals but you want to retain a HIPAA compliant link for reporting and analysis.
For the first scenario, on saving or submitting a GER there will now be a new link:
Clicking on the copy link will allow the selection of additional individuals and wil create a draft GER for each of them. In addition, a new “Mutil Individual Event” will be created with links to each of the involved GERs.
Access to the MIE (which is an indiependant Therap form with its own ID) is controlled by a new agency-wide (non-caseload based) role, while access to the individual GERs is still controlled by the specific GER roles and caseload in the user’s Security Profile.
An MIE can also be created from scratch by selecting already created GERs (as might be the case in an altercation or investigation).
The MIE form ID will be listed on any associated GERs (for users with the MIE role it is a live link) and on the GER search results list to allow for grouping and reporting.
As we get closer to release, look out for webinars on this and more new topics. Until then, let me know if you have any questions.
