Peter H. O’Meara joined Therap in 2012 as the Director of Government Relations. He has worked in the field of Developmental Disabilities for over 45 years since 1966 in a variety of direct support, clinical and executive management positions in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Connecticut. For the last sixteen years, he was the Commissioner of Developmental Services for the State of Connecticut where he was responsible to deliver services to over 20,000 individuals with ID/DD and their families. He directed a state workforce of 5,000 and a contract workforce of 12,000 who provided a full range of services and supports and managed a budget in excess of one billion dollars. He also oversaw the direction of The Birth to Three System which served approximately 4,000 infants and toddlers. In addition, he served for seventeen years in the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and ten years for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Retardation.
Peter has completed his B.A. from Villanova University, Villanova, PA and has a M.S.P., Social Planning, Boston College School of Social Work, Chestnut Hill, MA. He has further obtained Senior Executive Certificate from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government, Cambridge, MA.
