As Hurricane Sandy approached the northeast on Sunday and Monday, major evacuations were taking place across New York City, Long Island, New Jersey and much of New England in order to provide safety and shelter for many people with disabilities. In addition to vast flooding and power outages across the northeast, transportation continues to present significant problems as clean up from the storm begins. During these natural disasters, direct support professionals are often asked to sacrifice a lot to protect and support others. Please join me in a sincere thank you and safe travels to all those who go beyond the average in supporting others.
