March is Developmental
Disabilities Awareness Month

Nearly four million Americans, including over 300,000 New Yorkers, have a developmental disability.  March is a time to recognize these citizens and to be aware that they lead meaningful lives, fill valued roles in our communities, and that they enjoy all the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship.

We need to take time not only this month but every month to reflect on how we, as a state and as a nation, recognize, celebrate, and rely on the contributions that are made by all our citizens, including people with developmental disabilities, so that we can build strong communities, a robust economy, and a bright future for local community, our state, and nation.
