Hello from North Dakota.  Over the last couple of days, I have been asked, “What is Excel, and what does it do?”  Here is a summary of what Excel is all about and how wonderful it can be for you.

What is Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel is an “electronic spreadsheet for storing, organizing, and manipulating data.”  The spreadsheet is broken into a worksheets which make up the workbook.  Each worksheet is made up of rows and columns which when they intersect create a cell.  It is the cell where you place the data into.  The data can consist of numbers, text, and various formulas that create results that come from data in other cells.   With the data that is in the cells you can also create various charts and tables as well and you can also make the data searchable and sortable.
