Last night, the Democratic National Convention nominated President Barak Obama to be their nominee for President in the 2012 election. More so than any time in recent history, the United States is at a crossroads. Consider the budget cuts occurring at the state level in most states. What is at stake? Public Education, jobs, Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security, heath care reform. Who is best suited to lead this country for the next four years and position this country to be a leader in the 21st century? I suppose you think I am going to tell you who you need to vote for at this point. I’m not. I expect that people will do their own research and come to their own conclusions about what is best for this country. The important thing is that you are engaged and informed in the political process. To help, I have included 2 speeches; 1 from the RNC last week and 1 from the DNC this week.

First lets look at the Paul Ryan speech from last week:

And former President, Bill Clinton:

On your way to making up your mind yet? Okay, here are 2 more…

Clint Eastwood (actor, director and former mayor) 2012 RNC

Sandra Fluke (2012 law School graduate, advocate) 2012 DNC

This gives you a great snapshot of the platform and the base.

This is just a primer to get you started. A few tips to become politically literate:

1. Watch the news- from more than just one source.

2. Do let the truth and facts inform your judgement

3. Register to vote now! Wait too long as you wont be able to cast your ballot in the 2012 election
