2014 Therap Conference

The conference was a success for myself and my travel companions. It was wonderful seeing old friends and making new ones. The crowd was rather large this year. The content was awesome. I picked up as much from other attendees as I did from presenters. It’s great to come together and hear what people in the field are doing with Therap. We are excited about going home and taking new ideas back with us.

Thank you Therap for a wonderful time.

National Conference!

Although i wont be able to attend the national conference i am really excited for Letisha and some of our self advocates to present. We have 2 self advocates and one family advocate who will speak about their experience using therap. Letisha will also touch on some of the obstacles that both our indivduals and our agency has had to overcome during the process. Please take the time to check out their presentation!

Therap For Android

We just starting rolling out the therap android app at TRC and response so far has been great. We set up one of our IRA’s as well as our Individualized Services program with a tablet to get some feedback and it has been extremely positive. Many off our staff feel that it is quicker and more effeccient to use the tablet and app as opposed to the desktop computer when documenting ISP data. It has also been nice as an administrator to see photos of our individuals completing milestones and signing for verifiacation of their services. Our group home manager and nurse have also found it useful to review data as well as the MAR to make sure everything has been completed. The password reset function for therap administrators is also very efficient and easy to use. There are still a few improvements we would like to see to the MAR on android but i am thinking this is something we will be rolling out to the rest of our homes and other programs as well. I would definetly encourage others to give it a try!

Awesome Billing Audit

We just went through our first billing audit in years and aced it! Thank you Therap. Not only was it ever so easy to produce records, we saved trees! Our error rate is so far below the state average I wanted to get up and dance. I set up each individual in a caseload for the auditors. It really did not take much at all for them to learn how to navigate to the information they needed to see. And once they figured it out we only had to provide those few documents that are only on paper. When they did their entrance on Monday they said they would be there until Friday. They were able access information so quickly and efficiently they left Wednesday afternoon. Now on to making plans for Kansas City!

Regional Conference In Syracuse

Some folks from TRC will be going to syracuse to present on some of our self advocates as therap users. Some of our individuals are really taking advantage of therap as a tool for self advocacy. At our agency we currently have 11 individuals who have access to T-LOGs appointments, ISP plans, etc. And 2 who use the therap MAR. The Buffalo conference went well and we are looking forward to syracuse. I definetly want to thank Kevin Lightle for being so helpful and accommodating to TRC!

Therap Committee

Our company has now had it’s second Therap Committee meeting. Why we didn’t think we needed a committee in the beginning is beyond me. Of course we did! If we want to be consistent in how we use Therap company wide then it is very important. And we learn from each other. We are using GTM so that we can include users throughout the company wherever they may be. It’s really cool when someone says, “We need a way to….”. And someone else in the group says, “Oh, well I just do this….”. So sharing is a big part of the meetings so far.

Help Save Services in New York!

Services that TRC and other New York agencies provide to people with disabilities are under severe threat as a result of a proposed amendment to the 2013-2014 budget by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The Governor has proposed that $120 million be cut from OPWDD(Office of People with Developmental Disabilities), and OPWDD Commissioner Courtney Burke is proposing that the ENTIRE $120 million be cut from voluntary providers like The Resource Center, none from State operations. Since the State and Federal Government each supply 50% of Medicaid funding, the $120 million NYS cut would mean a matching $120 million cut from the federal government. This $240 million cut to OPWDD services would mean a 6 percent cut across all OPWDD programs. This would mean that many of the advances people with disabilities have enjoyed over the last four decades would be drastically cut. Individuals and families who depend on OPWDD services from providers (residential, day habilitation, supported employment, pre vocational services) must make their voices heard! Let the Governor, the Commissioner of OPWDD and our State legislators know what these services mean to you, and that these cuts cannot be tolerated. Please call, write or visit with legislators to tell your story and help them to understand that this is not just a line on a budget — people’s services and supports are at grave risk! This matter is time sensitive as the amendment would go through in April. Below is the contact info for some of the key people you should try and reach:

One More Thing

Well, now I have added one more thing to my list of things I am responsible for. I am now a Certified Trainer. Don’t get me wrong, I am excited. It will be fun being involved in the movement. The conference was great. I learned there is always more to learn. And of course it was nice to put a person to the name I see when I seek out Live Help or read blogs.

I did come back energized and ready to move my company forward with Therap. I want a Therap committee. Yes, that is correct, we do not currently have a Therap committee. But we will! And then hold on to your hats. I guess since I am in Texas I should say hold on to your cowboy hats.

I have to say it was nice to get back to Texas weather. I did miss the warm and wind. I live near Dallas and have read that Dallas is windier than Chicago. I don’t think it is windier than West Texas though. Stay tuned. I’ll be back. Same place another time.
