Only 3 Weeks Away!

Happy January to you all from us here at Tobosa Developmental Services in Roswell, NM.  I wanted to start the New Year off by expressing how very excited I am about the National Conference in Vancouver, WA!  We were lucky enough to get selected to do 3 presentations during the conference.  I am looking forward to networking with new people and to seeing some great familiar faces.  We will be taking a group of 6 from here (including Bill Jones and I – who will both be presenting).  What an awesome experience we had at the other conferences we attended and we have no doubts that this one will be just as awesome.

One of the things we are working on here in Roswell, is to use the Training Academy more formally this year.  We have been using it since Nationals last year, very informally.  We use it now to learn about new modules as we attempt to use them within our agency.  But starting in 2016 we are looking at implementing them into our New Employee Orientation Training.  It is exciting and I can’t wait to see how we make it work for us.

I could blog on for hours, but I will wrap it up – and save my breathe for our presentations – Can you believe it is in 3 weeks from today?!?!  Ahhhhh!!!!!  Better get back to preparing -ha ha.  See you guys there.

New Mexico Regional Conference

We just got back on Friday after getting to TRAIN at the Regional Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  It was great to see some returning faces from last year and to meet some new people as well.  I feel like over all the conference was great and it added an avenue for fellow Therap Guru’s to brainstorm and trouble shoot.  I feel like New Mexico is well on it’s way up in the Therap world.  The state as a whole seems to be using Therap much more that what it is mandated for.  There of course are some that have not caught on to all of it’s capabilities, but also many that have.

So, just wanted to touch base and say that we had a great time and were very honored to actually train others at the conference.  We are even talking about starting a New Mexico User Group and had several other people interested.

It was very worth it!

My First Blog….Sorry!!!!!!!!

I thought the easiest part of being a Certified Trainer was going to be blogging. Boy, was I wrong!! This is my first blog after becoming a CT….four months ago!!!
We just attended the Buffalo Regional Therap Conference last week. It was great to hear the feedback from local agencies especially since New York is in such a state of transition. Our agency is starting the billing module this month so we were able to get individualized attention from Jim (added conference bonus)!! We really missed Leah this year, we all wish her the best!
On a personal note: My Therap life up until April was all about nursing, and I was becoming a pro at the medical stuff. However in late April I became the Director of Residential Services– and now have to focus on all modules, so I am learning all sorts of new things!!

Ok, blog done…….now on to Webinar ideas, lol!!!

Maybe it wasn’t so bad!!!

Kansas City

Although this is late I still wanted to take a minute to thank all the presenters and Therap employees for a great conference.

My coworkers and I had several hours (about 7) while driving back to Mitchell, SD, to talk about the sessions. The conferences not only provided people with the knowledge of “how” to use the features but also how to “improve” the quality of supports being provided. The discussions about how to use information obtained and contained within Therap for that purpose were interesting and challenging.

It was inspiring to have self-advocates involved in the conference and the emphasis on person centered supports being prevalent throughout the conference is to be commended.

Time has flown

I am still reeling from the fact the 2013 is over. I don’t think I have had a year more filled with Therap happenings. It has been interesting to say the least. I would just like to say thank you to all of you who have helped me this year. Thank you!

I am excited for this coming year. Can’t wait to see everyone at the National Conference. Well, except Anna, who will be greatly missed. Good luck Anna and thank you for all of your help and cannolis.

Connecticut here I come!

Hello all!

I am super excited to attend another Regional Therap conference this month in Connecticut!  No matter how long I use Therap or how many conferences and user groups that I go to, I ALWAYS learn something new when I hang out with other Therapites!  (And that’s because Therap users are smarter than everyone else!)

The New Mexico conference earlier this year, really opened my eyes about how a provider might react to a mandatory system, I know how I would react!  When ever I am told that I HAVE to do something, my immediate response is “no way!”  I know, you’re shocked, I seem like such a mild mannered and passive individual and you would never figure me for an outspoken rebel, but it’s true.  As I spoke with the New Mexico providers I started to realize that if I had been mandated to use Therap I probably would not love it as much as I do.  I feel fortunate that I have worked for companies that have acquired Therap because it is a desirable tool that enhances communication, empowers Direct Support Professionals and increases the quality of life for the people we serve.  Who knows, if I was mandated to use Therap I might be leading the charge against Therap instead of for Therap.  But luckily, we all know which side I am really on!!!  YAY THERAP!!!!

We in Florida have been waiting on the edge of our seats for months (and months and months and months) for the announcement that Florida will adopt Therap statewide.  And now I know what to expect.  All those other rebels out there that will want to reject any mandatory anything, will have to listen to me when I tell them to put down the torches and accept this change.  Therap is good for individuals, staff, providers and states.  It’s like mandatory chocolate.

So, now on to Connecticut, the birthplace of Therap, a pilgrimage to the homeland!  I have no idea what I will learn when I am there, but I have no doubt that it will be ground breaking, earth shaking and altogether awe inspiring.  So, bring it on CT!!!!

February Brings About Change

It seems the winds of change are blowing in my area again. I had a dear friend of mine pass away this past month and it has been hard to accept, but her memory has reminded me to stay on track. I set a goal to get things in order – mind, body, and spirit. I’ve started going to a workout class three days a week and I try to make it to the gym on the other days when I have an opportunity. I have found that exercise has relieved a lot of stress at work and makes work more smooth flowing. I have also started going to different churches in my area to find the right “fit” for me and my family. But, since funds are not looking their best, I might have to wait on the bachelor degree until next year.
On another note, I’m looking forward to the Therap conference in Atlanta this summer. Hopefully I will get to see some of the faces I have been communicating with through emails these past few months. Just remember I’m here if you need me, and keep up the good work!

Eternal Sunshine of the Therap Conference

Once again the National Conference is behind us and I am still basking in the awesomeness.  It was fun  learning new things, seeing familiar faces and meet new ones, and eating cannolies. But, what I really appreciated was the reminder of how accessible Therap and the information we put in really is; even though I was on the other side of  the country I could still carry out tasks back home.  I am so thankful for this because when I got back to the office the sunshine of Therap had made it so I was not overloaded or backlogged. And, thus I have time and was inspired to post my first (and absolutely not the last) blog of the year!

Until next time…working on my TherTan here in the Pacific.

Update on the Therap Conference

We passed 21 car accidents on the way to Jersey, but it was worth it.  Allison put the majority of the Certified Trainers on probation, so you will be hearing from many of us!  Damien wondered why so many of us shopped at “Committee Mart,” but Bev realized her caseload was larger than his entire agency.  It’s very interesting to see all the differences across the nation, and how they manage Therap at their agency.  Yesterday, I presented on TRC’s Therap Guides.  One agency was ecstatic to learn they could require T-Logs to be written after a GER was written.  This allows a limited number of people to have access to GERs, but everyone to be notified of the event.  Of course we have been giving Therap lots of ideas including a better offline form for MARs, allowing the Personal Focus Worksheet role to be with ISP Plan View (so all team members including the individual and family could input on the worksheet), having the update date for Individual Medical Information and Contacts reflect on the ID, having acknowledgement on Care Plans, and the list goes on.  If you would like to see any of these changes or others be sure to submit a Feedback to Therap.

Happy New Year!

I can’t believe it is a new year, this year should prove to be very productive for us with Therap. There will be 3 of us attending the National Conference and with that support I expect to finally get the ball rolling to have all departments on board so that we can start electronic billing by mid year.

I look forward to another exciting National Conference and look forward to meeting new people as well as renewing friendships with people that I have met at the past conference. Look out New Jersey, Alaska plans to be represented well at the conference.

See you all Soon,

Kristine Davis
