Ghislaine Mparanirubumwe, Director of Quality Assurance at Happy Haven, is talking about Reclaiming Time for Direct Support with Therap.

Established in 2018, Happy Haven provides home and community‑based services to adults with IDD in the Lewiston‑Auburn area of Maine, empowering individuals to live full, integrated lives within the community. After two years of using paper to document, the organization realized that managing physical records was taking time away from direct supports. Happy Haven switched to Therap’s electronic documentation system to streamline operations and reclaim time to focus on its person‑centered mission.

The Impact of Time Savings

As soon as staff start their shift, they are able to read the goals and see the tasks that need to be done. It really gives them a guide on how to support the individuals during the day.

As Director of Quality Assurance, Ghislaine Mparanirubumwe has had a front‑row seat to the Happy Haven’s transformation since adopting Therap. "Therap has been really crucial in the success of our agency…it really was one of the best decisions we've ever made because the amount of time we spend on documentation was cut down tremendously," she says. "When we were using paper, we would spend so much time and go to so many locations just to review documentation." Mparanirubumwe shares, "Now, the staff can spend more time with the individuals we serve and get them out in the community even more."

"We've been able to successfully pass compliance reviews, staffing reviews, and audits because of Therap," she says. These reports also give Mparanirubumwe and the organization’s leadership team valuable information to assess their progress. ”That has been a big piece for us. How are we doing as an agency? How are individuals doing with their goals? Are there challenges we need to address?” Therap’s reporting tools give Happy Haven the insights needed to answer those questions.

When implementing Therap, Happy Haven prioritized ensuring that their team felt supported and confident. "For any new system, it requires a lot of training. We took time to really train our staff to use Therap and that went well," Mparanirubumwe says. Staff not only successfully adopted the system but also quickly began to see how the tools could simplify and enhance their daily work. Mparanirubumwe credits features like Therap’s ISP Program module for offering greater clarity and direction for DSPs.
