For Homeward Bound, a Minnesota‑based provider with 22 locations across the Twin Cities Metro Area, delivering high‑quality supports relies on constant team communication and readily accessible information. Therap’s electronic documentation system helps the organization streamline documentation and collaboration across every home and every shift.

The frontline folks are pushing a lot of valuable information into the record that we can then review, whether it be on an analytical level or doing a recap on an incident, and get all our questions answered quite promptly.

Rob Edwards, the President and CEO of Homeward Bound, has over 20 years of experience in the human services industry. He understands that for an agency to excel, leadership needs more than just a general overview of operations; they need a pulse on what happens daily at each location. That’s why Homeward Bound has moved toward an “all‑in” documentation approach with Therap that prioritizes data‑driven decisions and effective communication.

Visibility from the Front Line to the Front Office

For Homeward Bound, staying informed across its 22 locations is essential. Real‑time access to documentation allows the management team to stay connected to daily activities from anywhere. Edwards notes, “We're able to make sure that if the senior leadership can't be present at shifts… we can dive right into the data from the corporate office.” This visibility ensures that leadership remains informed about everything from routine tasks to urgent matters. “The frontline folks are pushing a lot of valuable information into the record that we can then review, whether it be on an analytical level or doing a recap on an incident, and get all our questions answered quite promptly,” Edwards says.

Eliminating Gaps in Communication

This level of visibility is just as critical for frontline staff as it is for management, particularly in 24‑hour care environments. “We run three shifts, essentially from one shift to the next,” Edwards explains. “Everyone needs to be up to speed with the things that are changing for our residents. [With Therap,] there's less communication that can fall through the cracks.” The ability for staff to log in into Therap at the start of their shifts and access the latest updates on individuals is key to consistent, safe supports. Edwards emphasizes, “Therap helps us be on our toes. It helps us be operating with continuity across all shifts, all personnel, all staff, and our on‑call system.”

Embracing New Technology

Beyond daily documentation, Edwards is focused on how emerging technologies, like AI, can further support his team. “We have to find some way to make those tools available to staff so that they can be even more sophisticated and more able to deliver on that promise we make to residents,” he says. Edwards values Therap’s commitment to innovation and providing safe and reliable tools for providers. Homeward Bound has started using Therap’s QA Assistant and Summarization Tool to see how AI helps with tasks. “Therap can offer that partnership on the software application side, working to help to bring us up to speed and to make those connections.”
